Not in Slenaken, a small village surrounded by rolling hills at the southernmost tip of The Netherlands. It is a Euregional spot unlike any other, in the exact centre of the triangle that includes Aachen (Germany), Maastricht (Netherlands) and Liege (Belgium). All these destinations with their own native languages (German, Dutch and French) are located within less than 20 kilometres.
The oldest written reference of Slenaken is of 1252, although it is has been proved that this area already had citizens as far back as 6000 years ago. In a small forest along the Gulp River lies a huge stone that bears traces of axes being sharpened on it by our ancesters of the New Stone Age (Neolithicum). Today Slenaken counts about 315 houses and twice as many citizens.
The ‘Loorberg’ is a 100 year old farm house on a rise, located at a distance from other habitations. Now it’s possible to rent a two to four persons holiday appartment at this location. The appartments have been renovated in 2006. The interior is a combination of traditional local style and contemporary Dutch Design.
